I’m watched G chase his brother buck nekkid. Why? S2 was running around the house, while wearing G’s (clean) underpants on his head. He wasn’t smart enough to let the leg holes go over his eyes, so he was bumping into walls like a pin ball…. and thought it was hilarious. G did too.
It’s for days like today
I’m (usually) not a sappy person. I appreciate my loved ones, and things going well, but I don’t overtly PDA left and right. But these last few days, I’ve had an incredible feeling of amazement looking at my family that I can’t help but feel grateful and content.
It’s the simple things. Like seeing the kids color on their own, peacefully, while S and I make dinner. Or the boys playing with each other. Or G asking me if everything is OK when he saw me resting after I had a tummy ache. These are things I took for granted in family life thinking they’re par for the course… not realizing you have to work to get here. The ‘parenting’ work is what gets you here. All I really want in life is to raise two caring human beings that will contribute to this world. I feel like we’re on a path to make this a reality.
Things with G are also containing to improve. We have many more good days than bad, and when it’s bad (it’s knock on wood) it’s not nearly what it used to be a year ago.
S2 continues to be an incredibly sweet guy. He gets excited when it’s my turn to out him down to bed, and how tight he hugs me, along with how he calls me his best friend, just fills my heart.
A and I will be celebrating our 8 years of marriage next week. I’m shocked we’ve been married already that long. It hasn’t felt that long, which I guess is a good thing 🙂
Are there things I could ask for? Sure! But it’s nothing I NEED, and that’s a great place to be.

Things that make you go ‘Aw!’
As I put S2 down to bed tonight we had this exchange:
Me: Can we snuggle?
S2: Yeah!
(I put my arm around him)
Me: I love you!
S2: I love you too! We’re best friends!
Love this guy!

I think we have the only kid that hates the beach: he thinks it’s too loud and being there freaks him out. Checking out the seals didn’t really keep him motivated for long either.

Back to these tricks
S2 is at the age where he’s fighting naps, but isn’t really ready to stop napping either. He naps at school: he just fights us on it at home. I remember this time with G all too well — S and I got more exhausted over nap time, and we were likely to fall asleep while he ran circles around us. S2 is no different.
What worked for G was to literally restrain him, in his car seat, and drive him around. This was when we’d go drive and visit the horse ranch in Palo Alto. Wouldn’t you know it, it works for S2 as well! We got in the car, drove up the hill, and he was out before I could hit mile 4. Thankfully, he was a bit more environmentally friendly than his brother. I brought my laptop and pulled over and sat there, culling through images from my client session this morning.
Guess what we’ll be doing again tomorrow? I just hope he passes out quickly again so I don’t have to drive too long. I also need to map out my free wifi routes too. I have some Netflix I could catch up on 🙂

Little stinker
My conversation today w/ S2 as we were changing diapers. We still play our “stinky feet” game. You know… the one where he waves his foot in front of my nose and I pretend to faint because they are stinky? In all honesty, his stinky toes are no more: the stinker bombs those things were when he was an infant has gone away. But we still play:
Me: [pointing to one leg, and then the other] That’s Stinky Woo, and this is Sticky Wow!
S2: Tinky woo woo?
Me: There’s no Stinky Woo Woo, just Stinky Woo and Stinky Wow. And you’re the Big Stinker!
S2: I not Big Tinker
Me: You’re not? Who are you then?
S2: I Little Tinker!
Ok — you win!
The newest bike spot
S and G have discovered a new place to ride their bikes. It’s local, it’s really neat, a little secluded, and the boys like it. The only minus is that it’s on the beach, so all the ground is literally crushed up sea shells, which makes spills unpleasant. G can actually attest to that. On this particular adventure, we kicked off by asking if he wanted to wear his knee and elbow pads. He refused, and not 3 minutes later received a big fat sea-shell sand scrape on the elbow of his arm. After awhile of his friends riding, though, he came around to show ’em how it’s done.
This was s2’s first visit to this place too. He did pretty great!

While G was lamenting his wounded arm he watched the RC planes fly over head. We got some nice swoops. I wish I had a good photo 🙂
