    The snuggle trap

    May 27th, 2014

Why do I fall for it? Why do I fall for thinking having a 3yr old in my bed all night is a good idea? He comes out all pout-y from a bad dream, clutching a pillow and blanket that melt my heart. I let him in. I think to myself: I miss this. I love this, as I wrap my arm around him and bring him close.

Only for those 5 minutes of conscious contentment to be followed by 4.5 hours of being kicked in the head, abdomen and any other accessible body part his feet can reach, as he thinks putting his feet on the pillow is the proper way to sleep. And that no matter how many times I wake to rotate him around, he reverts to upside down sleeping. He settled down at 4:30am after going to the potty in MY bathroom, insisting I get up to turn the light on for him, and then redress him in the obnoxiously difficult Spiderman jammies.

This morning, I woke up feeling like a zombie. He, on the other hand, meanwhile, looked like this:

So why do I do this? Why do I fall for it? Ah yes, that’s right: because he’s cute. And it won’t last forever. And I will miss it.

I guess my bed has a vacancy again tonight.

    A case for three kids

    May 11th, 2014

While on a drive to Great America (after an already trying time with the kids)

S: Do you guys want to listen to music?
    G: No!
    S2: Yes!
    (pause)
S: So this is why people have 3 kids. To break the tie
    (Looks at me)
    Me: No!!!!

In retrospect, I’m sure S was only looking at me to validate his statement.

    Friend pajamas

    May 10th, 2014

Look! G made pajamas for his friends.

    He’s lucky!

    May 10th, 2014

G likes to count the money in his piggy bank. He likes to roll his change, and count his bills. The other day, in his routine accounting, he pick s up a 20 dollar bill and exclaims:

G: This guy is really lucky!
    Me: Really? Why?
    G: He’s on a lot of moneys!

I tried explaining to him that Andrew Jackson was lucky for being president, and the opportunities that gave him, but at this point, G’s far more impressed with him being on his paper moneys.

    The tooth-fairy commeth

    May 4th, 2014

G has a wiggly tooth. For real this time (as opposed to the past year he’s been telling us he has a wiggly tooth — all the way in the back of his mouth 🙂 ). But yeah, front bottom left incisor is getting ready to make an exit.

    And I’m not ready.

I’m not ready for missing teeth. Honestly? They kinda creep me out. And I have a whole thing with saliva, so helping someone extract a tooth with all the drooling? Pass!

And missing teeth-wholes are not cute. The little sharp, saw-blade teeth that come up? Why? The baby teeth weren’t serrated. Why do adult teeth have to be?

Plus this starts off a whole trend of growing up, with pre-teenage-hood and smelliness, armpit hair, and kids that don’t call me “mommy” anymore.

    Blah!

Meanwhile, the “tooth-fairy” is ready with a 2 dollar bill. A new toothbrush head (the boys have electric toothbrushes) is also on it’s way.

Just PLEASE make this teething round not nearly the painful experience it was the first time around!

    LOL

    May 1st, 2014

G has discovered the “LOL!” He has no clue what it means, but apparently knew it had something to do with giggling. I discovered this by watching him play with our chalk-board, and noticing that he put LOL behind each of our names. No clue why, and how they all relate, but he thought it was LOL-able 🙂

(PS. Yes, I told him what it meant.)
