San Francisco adventures on the first vacation day.
G’s ingenious way to ‘carry’ his bagel bites
Storm’s birthday party this year was at Sports House… celebrated with GaGa Ball, soccer, pizza and donuts.
I legit wish I could explain GaGa ball. It’s like dodge-ball, in an enclosed arena, where you’re trying to be the last man standing, but can’t hit others directly. Storm requested it. Apparently Sports House introduced it over summer camps, but it’s not one of their standard activities. They used his party as a try to see if they can make it work as part of regular party bookings. Not sure what ultimately SH will decide there, but Storm’s guests seemed to enjoy it.
We have surpassed the age of 7 today, and the youngest human in our brood wakes up as an 8-yr old today. This kid has been calling out that he couldn’t wait ’till Thursday every day this week. For real — he didn’t even blink twice for Candy Debauchery Day (aka Halloween).
Storm,
Today you wake up 48″ tall and 50.7lb (though that’s with street-clothes on, so let’s take a pound off!). You continue to be a creative thinker and a happy soul. Please, don’t lose that. I love that I can find you singing to yourself while you are playing, or that you break out in a dance while randomly waiting in line at the store. PS — you’re a pretty good dancer! You’ve got a little mischief in ya’, but it’s (usually) in good nature, paired with good humor.

I’m not a home-made Halloween Costume person — I love me a good online order instead! However, earlier in the summer I saw a video of a guy that made Transformer costumes for his kids, and my brain, in contrast, said: I wanna do that!
I spent a good amount of time in my youth loving paper castle making to a point I started creating my own forms. I now know there’s a whole universe of Papercrafting out there, but using said past skills (and a whole bunch of Amazon boxes I began storing), I set out to turn Storm into Bumblebee.
I’d say I did pretty good!
He enjoyed the school parade where he got to transform a few times. Meanwhile, Trick-or-Treating was semi-ok. He transformed for the first few houses and then realized it took too long, and just showing up expanded was good enough.
That costume’s enough to keep me “good” for a few years, I say!
For a couple of years now I’ve been making friends with our sous vide. I’m also trying to expand my horizons into cooked fish. Generally, I don’t do cooked fish : it’s too easy to overdo and it tastes “not so good” once it hits that dry stage. The sous vide on the other hand has removed that fear, so cooked salmon is a now more common occurrence at our house. Shane’s still out on it, but someone else has discovered a taste for it.
I was worried a whole filet might be too much for him. He put it down like it was going out of style.
G’s latest school assignment was a project on immigration. Each kid had to interview an immigrant in their family, and I guess lucky for him one of them was his parent 🙂
It was a multi-part assignment and the last bit was do to a presentation… in the first person, speaking AS the individual they interviewed. They were even encouraged to dress as their interview.
So… to be me, G wore jeans. Yes. I’m predictable. I’ll take it.
We started our annual pumpkin trip with lunch. Griffin’s face lit up when I told him this was a lunch option. I think he’s more stoked for clams than the rest.
Storm and I went to see Dav Pilkey tonight. He’s a big fan of the “Dog Man” series, so he god a big kick out of it.
I, on the other hand, got a whole new appreciation for this author.
