Toothless grins

S2 1st tooth broke through the surface today. I saw it coming, so I snapped a whole lot of pics of this toothless smile yesterday. I’m gonna miss it!
S2 went through 5 separate outfit changes yesterday. I haven’t had to change a kid this often since my anal-retentive G newborn days. Why? ‘Cuz he spat up a lot yesterday. A LOT!
S had suggested that maybe it’s because of the teething. His logic was that if teething produces more acidic saliva, if it’s acidic enough to cause diaper rash (case in point, G), then it could also easily act in the opposite direction. And, per Ms. J’s confirmation, he’s right.
Ugh.
I think I’d rather take the diaper rash.
We’ve been alerted that S2 is showing signs of teething. Kid is not even 5m old. WTF? Ensue my panic. I’m not ready for him to teethe! My nipples aren’t ready for him to teethe!!!
It would explain a lot of his recent behavior though: the constant first in mouth, the drooling, the stuffy nose… the frequent night wake-ups.
What’s the rush kid? You couldn’t wait to run for the exit, you’re staring at my food with those devouring eyes, and now this? Why couldn’t you take after me and wait to sprout chompers AFTER you turned one?
Clearly there will be no break between teething children in our home. Just as G is finishing up his last molar we’ll be starting over again with S2. I can only hope, at least, that S2 will take it easy on us for those first few.
Sigh!
Tylenol and Motrin sure are getting a run for their money around these here parts. You see, G is getting a visit by the tooth-gifting faerie and she has not been kind. His nose has been draining like a faucet, his diaper rash is never-ending, and his personality? Well, let’s just say it leaves a lot to be desired. To top it off he’s trying to gnaw on just about everything in sight… like my chair arm-rest for example… or my fingers. He’s never been much of a teether-kind of kid, and now that he’s got his incisors and first molars in, it’s hard to get into the nooks & crannies he really wants to scratch.
His incoming teeth are his canines. That will pretty much wrap up teething for us for awhile and G will be sporting a mouth-full of chompers. I can’t wait!
G has a tooth! A real one. Of his very own. Front and center on the bottom (bottom left incisor).
How did I not even notice?
This is not the makings of a tooth. It’s broken through the gum line already.
Point 1 for oblivious parent over here. I guess this would explain why he was chomping on a pacifier lately — something he’d never done before.
I think a second one, one of his lateral incisors, is also on it’s way. I guess it’s time to shove some teethers in the freezer and have the baby Tylenol and teething tablets on stand-by.
